COACHING EXPERIENCE

Coach Frank Haege brings more than 30 years of coaching experience across the professional, collegiate, and high school levels to 319Football. He has coached Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers, and Defensive Backs at every level of the game, including 15 seasons as Head Coach and Quarterbacks Coach at Augsburg University and five seasons in the Arena Football League.

At the professional level, Coach Haege is a two time world champion,  compiled a historic 37–1 record with the Quad City Steamwheelers, winning back-to-back championships and becoming the winningest coach in af2 history. His teams set dozens of offensive records, including an undefeated 19–0 season, the highest winning percentage in league history, and multiple scoring records. He also engineered the greatest single-season turnaround in AFL history with the Las Vegas Gladiators and led the league’s #1 ranked offense.

At the collegiate level, Coach Haege transformed Augsburg University into a consistent winner, building one of the MIAC’s most respected offensive programs while overseeing all aspects of the program, including recruiting, player development, and academics. He also coached defensive backs at Bemidji State University, contributing to a Conference Staff of the Year honor, and helped lead Cornell College to its first winning season in over a decade.

Coach Haege’s experience also includes coordinating top-ranked professional defenses, developing elite defensive backs, and serving as Special Teams Coordinator for one of Iowa’s winningest high school programs at Solon High School.

Through 319Football, Coach Haege provides athletes with elite-level instruction built on proven systems, accountability, and decades of championship-level coaching experience.

Aaron Garcia — AFL Hall of Fame | All-Pro
Coach Haege worked with Aaron Garcia during the 1997–1998 seasons with the New Jersey Red Dogs, helping develop one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in professional football history. Garcia went on to become the AFL’s all-time leader in passing yards (72,000+), touchdown passes (1,200+), completions, and pass attempts. He earned multiple All-Arena selections and remained an elite quarterback for more than 20 seasons, setting the standard for longevity, accuracy, and leadership in arena football.


Clint Dolezel — AFL Hall of Fame | All-Pro
Clint Dolezel starred in the Arena Football League for 13 seasons and became the first professional quarterback to throw for 900 career touchdowns. His 931 touchdown passes rank second all-time in AFL history, along with more than 44,000 passing yards. Dolezel played for multiple AFL franchises and was mentored by Coach Haege during his time with the Las Vegas Gladiators. He was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2012. Following his playing career, Dolezel became a successful coach, leading the Philadelphia Soul to back-to-back AFL Championships (2016, 2017) and currently serves as the Head Football Coach at Division I Texas A&M Commerce.


Rickey Foggie — AFL All-Pro
Coach Haege coached Rickey Foggie from 1996–1999, working with one of the most dynamic and explosive quarterbacks in Arena Football League history. Foggie was a premier dual-threat quarterback known for extending plays, creating offense with both his arm and legs, and redefining the position in the indoor game. A standout with the Orlando Predators, Foggie was an AFL All-Pro and a key contributor to championship-level teams. His athleticism, leadership, and competitive edge made him one of the most difficult quarterbacks to defend and one of the early stars who helped shape modern arena football offenses.

Billy Dicken — All-Pro | ArenaCup Champion (19–0)
Billy Dicken led Coach Haege’s 2000 Quad City Steamwheelers to a perfect 19–0 season and ArenaCup Championship. That season, Dicken threw for 3,400 yards, 73 touchdowns, only 4 interceptions, and posted a QB rating of 128, earning All-Pro honors. He later played five seasons in the Arena Football League, finishing with 187 touchdown passes, just 46 interceptions, and a career QB rating of 105.6.


Jay McDonough — All-Pro | ArenaCup Champion (18–1)
Jay McDonough quarterbacked the Quad City Steamwheelers to an 18–1 record and ArenaCup II Championship in 2001. He completed 303 of 424 passes for 73 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions and a QB rating of 131.9. He later played for the New Jersey and Las Vegas Gladiators, throwing for more than 6,300 yards and 107 touchdowns in the AFL.

Alvin Ashley — Arena Football League | All-Arena
Coach Haege coached Alvin Ashley from 1994–1998 in the Arena Football League. Ashley was one of the most productive receivers of his era, finishing his professional career with 629 receptions, 7,561 receiving yards, and 142 touchdowns. He earned Second-Team All-Arena honors in 1997 and First-Team All-Arena honors in 1998, establishing himself as a premier professional target known for consistency, toughness, and scoring production.


Marcus Nash — Las Vegas Gladiators - All Arena, and former NFL 1st round draft pick.
Coach Haege coached Marcus Nash with the Las Vegas Gladiators during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Nash was one of the most dominant receivers in Arena Football League history, finishing his career with 661 receptions, 8,113 receiving yards, and 192 touchdowns, ranking him among the league’s all-time leaders. His size, athleticism, and red-zone dominance made him a matchup problem at the highest professional level.


Mike Horochek — New Jersey Gladiators, All-Arena and former New York Jet
Coach Haege coached Mike Horochek with the New Jersey Gladiators in 2002. Horochek was a seasoned professional receiver who brought physical route running, reliability, and leadership to the offense. His experience provided stability within the receiver room and consistency in high-pressure game situations.


Scott Hvistendahl — Quad City Steamwheelers, All-af2
Coach Haege coached Scott Hvistendahl with the Quad City Steamwheelers during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Following one of the most accomplished collegiate receiving careers in NCAA history, Hvistendahl successfully transitioned to the professional arena game and contributed as a dependable target within a championship-caliber offense.


Xavier Patterson — Quad City Steamwheelers | af2 Ironman of the Year
Xavier Patterson played for the Quad City Steamwheelers during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. A versatile two-way player, Patterson was named af2 Ironman of the Year in 2000 and played a key role in the Steamwheelers’ ArenaCup Championship run. His athleticism and impact on both sides of the ball were instrumental in the team’s historic success.


Shon King — Quad City Steamwheelers | ArenaCup Champion, All-af2
Shon King was a dynamic playmaker for the Quad City Steamwheelers during their undefeated 2000 season and ArenaCup I Championship. Known for his speed and big-play ability, King served as a primary vertical threat and scoring weapon in one of the most explosive offenses in arenafootball2 history.


Craig Cole — Quad City Steamwheelers, All-af2
Craig Cole played for the Quad City Steamwheelers during the 2001 season. Under Coach Haege, Cole developed into a dependable possession receiver and situational target within a high-volume passing offense. His reliability helped sustain drives and maintain offensive balance throughout a championship-contending season.

Ayrton Scott — Augsburg University | All-American and League MVP
Ayrton Scott finished his career as one of the most productive quarterbacks in NCAA Division III history. He holds school records for passing yards (10,281), passing touchdowns (97), rushing yards by a quarterback (4,242), and rushing touchdowns (37). He set MIAC records for passing yardage and total offense in conference games and finished second all-time in Division III total offense with 14,523 yards.


Jordan Berg — Augsburg University | All-American
Jordan Berg finished his career with 8,777 passing yards and 74 touchdowns, setting multiple school records and the MIAC career passing yardage mark (conference games-only). He ranked among national Division III leaders in passing and total offense and recorded 14 games of 300+ passing yards.


Quinn Frissell — Augsburg University | All-Conference
Quinn Frissell was a two-time All-Conference quarterback and team captain at Augsburg University and later played professionally in the Austrian Football League. He was named National Player of the Week in 2017 after throwing for 449 yards and four touchdowns. Frissell is the founder of 612Quarterbacks.com, the parent company of 319Football.


Marcus Brumm — Augsburg University | All-American
Marcus Brumm earned All-MIAC First Team honors in 2009 and All-MIAC Second Team honors in 2010 and 2011. In 27 career games, he finished second in school history in every major passing category with 6,974 passing yards and 46 touchdowns, while also adding 472 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.


Derrin Lamker — Augsburg University | Gagliardi Trophy Finalist and League MVP
Derrin Lamker earned MIAC First Team and MVP honors during Augsburg’s 1997 championship season and was a finalist for the NCAA Division III Gagliardi Trophy. He threw for 6,624 yards and 46 touchdowns and remains one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in program history.

Royce Winford — Augsburg University | All-America | MIAC Player of the Year
Coach Haege coached Royce Winford at Augsburg University where he became one of the most productive receivers in school history with 247 receptions for 3,282 yards and 41 touchdowns, ranking second all-time in program records. He posted multiple 1,000-yard seasons (including 101 catches for 1,403 yards and 16 TDs in 2007, and 93 receptions for 1,139 yards and 16 TDs in 2008), set the MIAC single-game reception record (20), and tied school career marks for overall and receiving touchdowns. Winford earned D3football.com All-America honors twice, was named MIAC Player of the Year, D3football.com West Region Offensive Player of the Year, and a multi-year All-MIAC first-team selection. Following his collegiate career, he was invited to the Minnesota Vikings rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, reflecting his high level of play and pro potential.  


 

Scott Hvistendahl — All-American | Gagliardi Trophy Winner
Coach Haege coached Scott Hvistendahl at Augsburg University from 1996–1998. Hvistendahl completed one of the most accomplished careers in NCAA history, finishing with 285 receptions, 4,696 receiving yards, and 41 touchdowns, setting the NCAA all-divisions receiving yardage record at the time. He earned multiple All-American honors, MIAC Player of the Year, Academic All-America, and won the Gagliardi Trophy as the nation’s top Division III player.


Joey Sonnenfeld — All-MIAC | All-Region
Joey Sonnenfeld was one of the most productive receivers in Augsburg football history. He recorded back-to-back seasons with over 1,200 receiving yards, including 1,219 yards and 14 touchdowns in one season and 1,244 yards and 12 touchdowns the next. Sonnenfeld earned multiple All-MIAC First-Team selections, D3football.com All-West Region honors, and set a school record with a 334-yard receiving game, one of the highest single-game totals in Division III history.


Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane — All-MIAC | All-American
Coach Haege coached Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane at Augsburg University, where he was a versatile contributor at wide receiver, defensive back, and return specialist. He ranked among team leaders in receiving production, including a season where he led the team with 44 receptions for 643 yards. Bourne-McFarlane earned MIAC honors and was recognized for his impact across offense, defense, and special teams. He earned All-American honors as a returner his Senior season.
